Dear Student #2 (in what might become a series)

Joseph Conrad may not have ever mastered British ways, but he did master the English language. Trust me on this one.

Conrad hated Russia, true, but not because of the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917. At that point, he was 60 and had hated Russia for a long time, probably because his Polish father was exiled for revolutionary activities. And Conrad was a Pole, not a Polack or a Pollock. 

Finally, the sentence "My teachers love my mother because . . ." cannot end well.
